Bedford Charter Township is located in the northwest corner of Calhoun County, Michigan.  We are a northern and western suburb of Battle Creek. There are four school districts serving our area – Pennfield, Battle Creek, Gull Lake and Hastings.

Bedford Township is a rural community that is largely residents being served as a “bedroom community” on the outskirts of Battle Creek. Residents residing here enjoy the quiet associated with being out of the everyday hustle and bustle of city life while staying in close proximity to required services.

The Township boasts several parks for recreational activities and family picnics, and has multiple streams and creeks, which provide access for fishing and recreational water activities

The Township is governed by a Board of seven (7) elected officials consisting of the Supervisor, Clerk, Treasurer, and four (4) Trustees. All of our Board, Commissions and Committees are comprised of residents interested in preserving the Township’s residential and rural atmosphere to make this a good place to call home. Welcome to the Charter Township of Bedford.

Homeowner Beware: Any work being done on your home, if not done by you, must be done by a contractor licensed by the State of Michigan.  The contractor is responsible for pulling the permit and must give proof of his license to the Township on application for the permit.  This is your only recourse in the event the work is not approved and up-to-code, or you have problems in the future.
